Ceviche MCP lets an AI assistant read your team's books in Ceviche and answer questions about them. You ask in plain words, for example "How much did we charge to Fund II over the last two quarters?", and the assistant looks up the bills, splits and fund invoices in Ceviche and answers with figures that tie back to the app.

It is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that Claude and other assistants use to talk to outside services. You add one URL to your assistant, sign in with your normal Ceviche account, approve read-only access, and from then on the assistant can look things up in Ceviche when a question needs it.

Who it is for

CFOs, controllers and finance leads at private funds and their management companies who already use Ceviche. It is the quick way to answer a reporting question without building a filter in the app or exporting to a spreadsheet. The app itself stays where you allocate, approve and invoice.

What it can do

  • Answer spend questions. Totals by fund, vendor, project, account, month, quarter or year, with the count of bills or lines behind each figure.
  • Find records. Bills, bill lines, splits to funds, fund invoices, approvals, corrections, attachments, vendors, entities, projects, deals, policies and team members.
  • Read one record in full. A bill with every line, how each line is split across funds, its approval history and its attachments.
  • Check that things tie. Every grouped total comes back with a flag that says whether the groups add up to the total, and whether every split adds up to the line or bill it splits.
  • Link back to the app. Where Ceviche has a page for a record, the answer links to it as "Open in Ceviche".
  • Build things from the data. Assistants that make charts, dashboards, spreadsheets or documents can do so from these figures. The MCP gives them Ceviche's colors and formatting rules, so the result looks like Ceviche.

See What you can ask for example questions by job.

What it can't do

  • It can't change anything. Every tool is read-only. Ceviche MCP can't create, edit, approve, allocate, post or delete anything in Ceviche or in any accounting system. The assistant can't ask it to, and no setting turns that on.
  • It reads one team only. A connection is bound to the team you belong to in Ceviche. It can never reach another team's data, and it never mixes teams in one answer.
  • It sees only what you can see. It reads as you, with your permissions, so an answer never contains a record you couldn't open in the app yourself.
  • It doesn't cover every Ceviche setup yet. Today it reads teams whose books are kept in Ceviche itself, with no accounting system connected. Teams connected to QuickBooks Online or NetSuite, and teams whose card spend comes in from Ramp, can connect, but the tools tell the assistant those records aren't available yet. See Limits.
  • It doesn't return files. It lists attachment names, types and sizes, never the files themselves.
  • It doesn't return bank details. Vendor bank and wiring details, vendor contacts and internal owners are never returned.

How it works, in four steps

  1. Ceviche turns it on for your team. It is off for every team until we switch it on. See Turn it on for your team.
  2. You add Ceviche MCP to your assistant. In Claude that is a custom connector with the URL above. See Connect Claude.
  3. You sign in and approve. A Ceviche page opens, you sign in, and a consent page shows your team and exactly what the assistant will be able to read. You click Allow.
  4. You ask. The assistant decides when a question needs Ceviche and calls the MCP's tools. Each answer is read fresh from Ceviche at that moment.

Which assistants work

AssistantStatus
Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude for mobile)Supported. See Connect Claude.
Claude CodeSupported. See Other assistants.
ChatGPTSupported. See Other assistants.
CodexComing. The server supports it; setup steps will follow once we have tested it end to end.
Other MCP clientsNot supported yet. Ceviche refuses sign-in from other web-based apps, and we haven't tested other desktop apps.

Security in one paragraph

You sign in to Ceviche itself, on a Ceviche page. The assistant never sees your password. Access is read-only and limited to your one team, every read runs with your own permissions, and the connection stops working the moment you disconnect it, leave the team, or Ceviche turns the MCP off for your team. Text inside your records, such as a vendor name or a note, is treated as data and never as an instruction to the assistant. Details are in Access and permissions and How your data is handled. The privacy policy is at https://www.ceviche.ai/privacy.
